Enjoy a Camping and Touring Holiday at Queensberry Bay Holiday Park in south west Scotland

Touring's not what it used to be ...

In the old days, you checked the weather, hooked up, took a leisurely drive to the destination of your choice and were ensconced with your book and a glass of wine by tea time.

These days, you’re either getting sworn at by boy racers wanting to struggle past in their souped up tin cans, or sitting for hours on end jammed between two juggernauts on the motorway at 56 mph.

And every time you refuel you have to have a quiet sit down and a cup of tea in a darkened room.

When you do eventually arrive at your destination, tired, fractious and possibly a trifle snappy, you have to wait while the person on reception finishes texting his or her partner with the week's shopping list, only to find that the park is fully booked, or, worse still, that there is a space . . . and it is beside the party from hell. . .

We know – we've been there! That's why at Queensberry Bay we do things rather differently.

At Queensberry Bay we remember our roots and our touring guests – that's you! - are important to us.

We’re not the big guys – we don’t hide behind a veil “corporate responsibility” (or lack of it) - we're a family owned and run park. What you see is what you get – except perhaps for the frantic paddling behind the scenes sometimes when things don't go quite as planned ....

And every one of us cares.

  • That's why we put so much effort into our welcome, our staff training, our gardens, our luxury showers, our modern laundry and drying room and our Campers’ Kitchen [view our full list of Park Facilities] – a lovely dry place for a cup of tea and with the best views around!
  • For our Touring Guests, whether  in caravans, camper vans or pitching a tent - we have 5 specific areas.
    These are covered briefly below – but see our Access Statement for more information;

1. Shoreside Touring Pitches

Camping by the sea in ScotlandOur Shoreside Pitches are what it says on the tin - they're on the shores of the Solway Firth. These are our premium pitches and they come with superb and uninterrupted views of the Solway and beyond to the Cumbrian Fells.

They’re the closest thing we have to hard standing, are well spaced (guests sometimes ask us which way they have to face. Where does that come from then?? We always say you can park forwards, backwards or sideways on - so long as you’re happy!) are clearly designated and are fully serviced with water and electric hook up included in (not added onto!) the price we quote.

Families are welcome on Shoreside pitches 1 and 2.

2. Fieldside Touring Pitches

Camping in scotlandOur Fieldside pitches are situated towards the back of the Park and look over the surrounding countryside towards the Queensberry hills and come with superb up close and personal views of the animals in pets corner.

Be warned - you will be visited by Eric and his chums looking for conversation and gingernuts. Electric hook up is included in the nightly price and a water tap is located on the Fieldside area.

Fieldside pitches are for adults only and tend to be rather quieter than Shoreside or Kiddies Corner.

3. Kiddies' Corner

Family Camping in scotlandParks tend to evolve over the years to fit their customers’ needs, and we’re no different. Most of our guests it must be said are couples of a certain age and our regular visitors tend to come here precisely because they know that Queensberry Bay has no facilities for teenagers or younger adults (unless of course they want peace and quiet that is . . . )

We do however welcome well behaved children and have specific areas of the park set aside for them - we have the two Shoreside pitches (above) and we have 4 pitches next to the Football area that we call our Kiddies’ Corner.

Electric hook up is included in the nightly price and there is a water tap nearby.

4. Non-electric Pitches

Non-electric pitches are cheaper than Shoreside, Fieldside or Kiddies Corner pitches and are located on softer, tent-peg-friendly ground. They don’t have the views of either Shoreside or Fieldside, but suit those on a budget.

5. Hiker's Pitches

Being on the SUSTRANS 7 route, we actively promote cycling and walking and offer these budget pitches for any hikers or cyclists who want to pitch their one-man tent for the night (or longer of course). In addition to our modern laundry facilities we also have a drying room - so if you’re unlucky enough to get caught in one of our showers, you can at least set off in the morning with dry clothes!
