1. ARE YOU OPEN TO THE PUBLIC?

LaurenLauren says: We are. It doesn't matter if you're staying with us, staying on another park, living in the area or just passing through. You’re welcome to use the spa.

JoanneJoanne says: Can we add "terms and conditions apply" please?

CathyCathy says:   I think you can consider it done!

2. What is pampering@powfoot?

CathyCathy says:  You know what – I'm ashamed to say that for my first 2 years here I never even used the spa!! I showed people round and explained the controls and that – but I’d never used it.

PamPam says: Why on earth not??

CathyCathy says:  It sounds so daft now – but before I lost all that weight I hated people seeing me even in trousers and a full length kaftan with a balaclava. Add a bathing costume to the mix and I’d run a mile.

LaurenLauren says: I know what you mean Cathy – but it’s completely private. There's no one else in there.

CathyCathy says:   I realise that now – and since Joanne made me use it I love it.

PamPam says: There is a magic feeling in the spa – I don't know what it is but it's a special place that's for sure.

PaulinePauline says: Joanne knows what the "magic" is, don't you Joanne?

JoanneJoanne says: Pauline – we don't talk about that now, remember?

CathyCathy says:   What does Pauline mean, Joanne?

JoanneJoanne says: We had a few issues at the start. Other worldly issues. Nothing to worry about.

CathyCathy says:  What does Joanne mean, Pauline?

PaulinePauline says: Well. It started with the lights and went from there. There was a time when the only person who'd go in was the woman who came to calm it all down, like.

JoanneJoanne says: Pauline – that was years ago. And you said you didn’t believe in "all that nonsense."

PaulinePauline says: So did you – but you still got that woman to come and calm it all down. What were her name? Cynthia?

JoanneJoanne says: Cilla. And the point is – she did just that. She calmed it all down. And it's been a different place since. And I'd appreciate it if someone would answer the question so we can all move on.

PaulinePauline says: Isn't that what that Cynthia said?

JoanneJoanne says: Pauline!!!

LaurenLauren says: I'm quite enjoying this! I've never seen Joanne so red.

PaulinePauline says: You should have seen her in our red uniforms!

JoanneJoanne says: Ladies???

PamPam says: Sorry. It's a log cabin with a sauna, a pool spa and a hot tub, which is outside in on the veranda. I love the hot tub. It's great at night!

CathyCathy says:   It's unique in this part of the world, isn’t it?

PamPam says: No – there's loads of hot tubs around. Where is it you live again, Cathy??

CathyCathy says:   I mean the whole thing – the whole thing's unique isn’t it?

LaurenLauren says: It is indeed. I did quite a bit of research on this and we’re the only one around for some time. You didn't mention the chill out area and the fact that it's only available for private hire.

3. WHAT DOES "PRIVATE HIRE" MEAN?

LaurenLauren says: What it says on the tin – you hire the unit for yourself or your party, we show you round and explain the controls, then once the door's closed behind us, it's yours for the session.

4. HAVE YOU GOT A SWIMMING POOL?

PamPam says: No. Like I said it’s a log cabin with a sauna, a pool spa and a hot tub.

CathyCathy says: But you can swim in the pool spa can't you?

LaurenLauren says: Indeed you can – but it’s against a current. It's really an exercise pool. And there’s only room for 1 person to swim at a time. How big is it?

JoanneJoanne says: It's 15 feet by 8 feet – or that's 4.5 m x 2.4 m for you, Lauren.

PamPam says: There are different settings for the current though – one guy lost his shorts!

CathyCathy says: And there's seats one end of the pool spa for friends to sit and chat.

5. How many guests can I have?

CathyCathy says: Our normal hire is for 4 people.

NicolaNicola says: We do take more though, don’t we?

LaurenLauren says:We do indeed. We can take up to 6. But our prices are for 4 – if there's more people the charges are more of course.

PamPam says: Why are we limited to 6?

JoanneJoanne says: It's about space and what the spa was designed for. It was never intended as a party venue. It's an adult relaxation facility and once you get to 6 you're pushing the bounds of peaceful relaxation.

NicolaNicola says: There's a discount if there's just 2 people though isn't there?

LaurenLauren says: There is. We offer a 20% discount for parties of 2.

CathyCathy says: What if someone books for 2 and then 5 of them turn up. I've had that happen before now.

LaurenLauren says: That's only a problem if they've booked a special (towels, food, wine etc.) because we won't have bought enough. If it's just a basic relaxer session then they'll have to pay the full price plus the extra person before they can go in.

6. CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN?

CathyCathy says: This is the second most asked question.

JoanneJoanne says: What's the first?

CathyCathy says: "Why can’t I bring my own wine?"

JoanneJoanne says: OK – so dealing with the children first . . .

NicolaNicola says: No – the spa is intended for adult use only.

JoanneJoanne says: It's slightly more complicated than that. We’re not insured for children to use the spa so the answer will always be "no".

7. WHY CAN'T I BRING MY OWN FOOD AND DRINK?

CathyCathy says: FAQ no 1!!

PamPam says: This does my head in. Why do people think every rule is there to catch them out??

JoanneJoanne says: I don't think they do – I think most people just don't understand some of the issues we have to comply with every day. Like food allergies and licensing laws.

CathyCathy says: And they think we're trying to make money.

JoanneJoanne says:Well, we are – we've got bills to pay the same as everyone else!

CathyCathy says: True – but I've never worked anywhere that was as fair as we try to be.

JoanneJoanne says:Thanks for that. We do try! So why can't our guests bring their own food and drink?

LaurenLauren says: I know this. The food one is because of allergies. If someone's allergic to a food type – say nuts – then they can die just being in contact with them.

JoanneJoanne says: That's a very important point, Lauren. My own niece has this allergy. If we provide the food at least we know what’s in it.

PaulinePauline says: Do you remember that woman that left crisps and sandwiches floating in the spa pool?

JoanneJoanne says: Do I not! We had to close the spa for 2 days after that to drain and clean everything from top to bottom.

PaulinePauline says: Didn't she then complain about something?

JoanneJoanne says: It was better than that! She complained that Cathy hadn't been "nice enough" with her. And when challenged on the food side she denied it. So we sent a copy of the CCTV footage.

PamPam says: What did she say then?

JoanneJoanne says: She said she wouldn't be back. So at least we agreed on that!

NicolaNicola says: On the alcohol side – isn't that to do with licensing?

JoanneJoanne says: It is, partly. As we all know, there are all manner of rules about who you can serve alcohol to – or when you should refuse them. So there's that to think about. In addition we don't allow use of the spa by anyone under the influence. Take your own drink in and we don't know what you've had. That invalidates the insurance.

CathyCathy says: And we will end the session or stop you going in if we suspect you've got food or drink.

PamPam says: There is another issue though – when we provide food and drink it comes with plates and glasses and serviettes etc. So you get the whole deal.

CathyCathy says: I have to say - when our Pam's set up the spa for a special with food or drink it really does look lovely.

8. DO YOU HAVE HOISTS FOR ACCESS?

JoanneJoanne says: I'll answer this because it's really important. We don't have hoists. We're classified and insured as an adult only relaxation facility. We're not a hydrotherapy, treatment or other therapy pool. If anyone is at all concerned on this please see our access statement, which covers the spa. Or please call us to discuss this further.

9. How much does it cost?

LaurenLauren says: It depends on what you want. We have 4 sessions a day and the sessions can range from the basic relaxer to a pamper half day. The starlight’s more expensive but other than that the charges are the same all week.

CathyCathy says: Out of interest, which is the most popular?

JoanneJoanne says: The relaxer and the pamper half day, interestingly enough – so that's the cheapest and the most expensive.

CathyCathy says: That makes sense – the relaxer’s the simplest and the pamper half day is really good value for money.

PamPam says: And I hear the masseuse in the pamper half day's quite good too.

CathyCathy says: Nice of you to say so!

JoanneJoanne says: Our prices are quoted for 4 people. There's a discount for only 2 and an extra charge for more than 4.

10. What is a spa mini break?

CathyCathy says: In general, or at Queensberry bay?

JoanneJoanne says: I wasn't planning on submitting an entry to Wikipedia, so I guess that would be "at Queensberry Bay".

NicolaNicola says: It's a break using either one of our letting vans or your own touring or camping unit but combined with a set number of spa sessions and massages.

JoanneJoanne says: Has anybody read the schedule for this year?

LaurenLauren says: I have.

PamPam says: Goody two shoes!

LaurenLauren says: We have to know for answering the phones! The spa mini breaks this year are the "Rescue Me" and the "Taster Session"

NicolaNicola says: Do the spa mini breaks apply to everyone?

JoanneJoanne says: Yes – if they're staying on our park. Because they’re a package including accommodation (or pitch fee if you’re touring) they don’t apply to visitors from other parks or from the local area. Find out more about our Spa Mini Breaks here >>
